Make Spotify Default Music App On Google

  1. For Google Home's best music setup, do these steps right away with Spotify, YouTube Music and more. Your Google Home or Nest smart speaker can play almost any song ever recorded, but first you.
  2. It won't play them from (at least it didn't in my case) but you will then have the possibility to select Spotify to be the default music application. This is useful if you want to open Spotify using media keys from your keyboard. So it solves the problem of making spotify the default music player, but it does not load the executed local mp3.

Voice-activated speakers are some of the hottest gifts this holiday season, and the GoogleHome, Hub, Max, and Mini are no exceptions. If you just unwrapped one of these smart home devices, you probably can’t wait for it to fill your home with your favorite music, podcasts, and more—as soon as you set up the darn thing.

Thanks to a new feature in Google's Android Clock app, you are now able to link your Spotify (Free at Apple.com) account—premium or ad-supported—and use your music as an alarm. Of course, this being a Google device, Google Play Music is the default here, but you can also link up your Spotify (both Spotify Free and Spotify Premium), Deezer+ and Deezer Family account to tap into your library and make more personalised voice requests.

It’s easy, we promise. All you need is Google Home, your Spotify account info, and your smartphone or tablet with the Google Home app. Here’show to connect your Google Home to Spotify:

  1. First, download the Google Home app from the Google Play or App store, and follow the prompts to set up your new Google Home device.
  2. Once connected, go to “Settings,” select “Music,” and then tap “Spotify” to set it as your default music service.
  3. Your Google Home app will ask you to link your Google and Spotify accounts. Have your Spotify username and password handy to start listening even faster.

Go ahead and test out your gadget’s skills. Try asking Google to play your favorite artists, songs, and playlists by saying:

“Okay Google…”

  • “Play Spotify.”
  • “Play my Discover Weekly.”
  • “Play hip-hop music.”
  • “Play ‘Angel’ by Lionel Richie.”
  • “Pause.”
  • “Like this song.”
  • “Skip forward 20 seconds.”
  • “Play the next song.”
  • “What’s playing?”
  • “What’s this album?”

If you have an Echo device, you probably know that you can ask Alexa to play a variety of songs. But unless you have a paid subscription to Amazon Music, the number of songs Alexa can play for you is somewhat limited.

The good news is that you can change Alexa’s default music service to something other than Amazon Music. You can connect Alexa to a music service you subscribe to and make that service your default music service for Alexa.

After you’ve changed the default music service, Alexa will automatically play songs from that service, without you having to request that service each time you speak to Alexa.
